In 2013, European anti-spam service “Spamhaus” was hit with, what is considered, “the most powerful cyberattack in history.” DDoS,
by sending useless traffic in large amounts to congest a network, slowed down significant areas of internet traffic in Europe. The amount experienced in this attack was 3 times larger than the second largest recorded DDoS attack up to point. The attack was supposedly done in retaliation to Spamhaus putting hosting company Cyberbunker on a blacklist.
