When the message listed above is sent via iPhone, it shuts down the receiver’s iPhone and causes it to continuously reboot and shutdown. Though it only works between iPhone-to-iPhone communication, it came to be known as Unicode of Death. “The crash is caused by the way Unicode decodes characters, thus overloading the device’s memory” (Chowdhry, 2015). In an attempt to fix the problem, Apple’s temporary solution are as follows:
1. Ask Siri to “read unread messages
2. Use Siri to reply to the malicious message. After you reply, you’ll be able to open Messages again
3. In Messages, swipe left to delete the entire thread. Or tap and hold the malicious message, tap More, and delete the message from the thread.
