What is #HackedHallways?

#HackedHallways is the hashtag for social media postings and form of identification for the project that the ATCM 3330.001 class in the University of Texas at Dallas is presenting. The project is in the form of a scavenger hunt, using an augmented reality app (WallaMe) to educate others about software bugs. Our goal with the project is to present to you, the audience, with novel information about software bugs that have existed in the past. Visit #HackedHallways on Instagram or Facebook to see what your fellow ATECers have found!

Why #HackedHallways?

As students who study the field of Arts and Technology, we wanted to present something technological to the audience. Originally, after bringing the idea of “bugs” to the table, the class thought of applying diseases and germs to the building; however, the group started playing with the idea of “what is a bug?” Upon further collaboration, the class settled on the idea of digital bugs and malware.

How was #HackedHallways brought to life?

After the development of the idea, the class was broken into 5 teams: research team, planting team, creative team, website team, tracking team. The research team started gathering information about potential software bugs related to technology, the time of the year, as well as the school itself; the planting team scouted, imagined, and presented potential locations in which these bugs would reside in; the creative team translated these bugs into recognizable, real-life bugs; the website team outlined and designed the information-database you see here; the tracking team gathered digital footprints of participation and social media postings. With this collective effort, the class was able to hack the hallways of ATEC.

Who is #HackedHallways designed for?

#HackedHallways project is dedicated to all students and faculty in the school of ATEC. However, this scavenger hunt can be found by anyone who has the app.
